170 churches opening for special weekends

The first of the Open Churches Weekends in the diocese has been hailed a success, with many churches holding events and services to attract new visitors.

Some offered guided tours, inviting the public to discover some of the most historic and beautiful buildings in the county. Others planned cream teas, exhibitions, tower tours and musical concerts, as well as quiet spaces to reflect and pray.

The second Open Weekend is on 22nd & 23rd July.

The Revd David McCoulough, Director of Partnerships & Mission in the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, said: “Growing Disciples: Wider, Younger, Deeper is at the heart of our mission in every community across the city and county and I hope these Open Churches weekends will be opportunities to welcome new visitors and old friends and neighbours, to establish the beginnings of new relationships, and that peoples’ hearts will be open to the good news of Jesus.”

Booklets containing details about every church taking part, and the activities and services they are offering, are available in local churches, libraries and Tourist Information Centres, or you can view a booklet on screen by clicking the link below.
