Diocese strengthens Safeguarding team
The diocese has strengthened its safeguarding team with the appointment of Heather Rolfe as Safeguarding Training Manager.
Heather (above left) will be organising, managing and delivering training across the diocese, working closely with the diocesan Safeguarding Advisor Donna Bernard-Carlin (right) and Children’s Ministry Adviser Nick Harding.
Her appointment comes as a new national learning and development framework for safeguarding in the Church is launched to standardise training and procedures throughout the country.
“The training will be for everyone, from clergy to church officers and volunteers,” said Heather, who has a strong background in childcare and training.
“It’s very important that people have the training to help keep children and vulnerable people safe in our churches.”
Heather worked for the Pre-School Learning Alliance for 17 years in the spheres of child care and training, managing a team of advisors across Nottinghamshire and into Derbyshire. She will be working part time for the diocese – mainly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, though this is flexible depending on demand.
Donna welcomed Heather to the team, saying: “I am particularly pleased that with Heather’s appointment we now have someone with the dedicated role of ensuring that safeguarding training is available and accessible to those involved in all areas of church work. This appointment is a clear indication of the high priority the diocese is placing on raising the awareness of all who work within our churches with vulnerable groups, be they children, young people or adults.”
