Spring into church winners to receive hamper

Proud winners of the ‘Spring into Church’ promotion, St Thomas’s Church, Aslockton, will receive their special hamper this weekend from Tourism Adviser for the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, the Revd Prof Myra Shackley.

Photo opportunity:

Myra and her colleague Kathryn Anderson (Southwell Minster Marketing Officer), will present the luxury hamper at Aslockton’s Tudor Fair on Saturday, 24th June, at 3pm, when the church will commemorate the 450th anniversary of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer’s Martyrdom.

Myra said: "Spring into Church 2006 which took place during the first weekend in May was very successful in getting over 30 churches who would not have normally have opened - to open their doors for visitors. During the summer months many churches are open and hosting special events such as concerts and flower festivals and are well worth a visit."

St Thomas’s church instigated a special opening during the first weekend in May welcoming visitors and selling refreshments and fair trade goods. The luxury hamper will include goods donated by Waitrose of Newark and the Co-op in Southwell for use in the church PCC meetings.

Funds raised during the weekend will be used towards the building of the Thomas Cranmer Centre in Aslockton. The weekend will culminate with Evensong at St Thomas’s Church at 4pm – the Prayer Book Society will also be in attendance at this meeting.

This will be an excellent photo opportunity with lots of parishioners in Tudor costumes and festivities involving children from the local Church of England Primary school.
