Reaching the marginalised and excluded through sport
The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu and the Archbishops’ Sports Ambassador, the Rt Revd Tony Porter, welcomed delegates from the Northern Province of the Church of England to Bishopthorpe Palace for a Sports Ministry Day on Weds 1st November.
The Sports Ministry Day included a welcome address by the Archbishop of York, a keynote address from the Rt Revd Philip North, Bishop of Burnley, and presentations by Marcellus Baz BEM, Sports Personality of the Year: Unsung Hero, and Andrew Thorp from Street Soccer Academy.
Bishop Tony Porter said: “Getting together those who are involved in Sports ministry provides a great opportunity to explore how this can be effective in reaching the marginalised and excluded. It was fantastic to hear from Marcellus and Andrew Thorp and the outreach work that they are doing.”
