Young leaders commissioned by Bishop Paul

Young people who took part in the sector mentoring programme organised by the Younger Leadership College attended a commissioning ceremony at the University of Nottingham.

Bishop Paul Williams prayed over the group as he commissioned them.

Special guest for the night was Ruth Walker, who as well as running a consultancy specialising in business strategy and mentoring, has a passion for equipping individuals to live as whole-life disciples in their workplace. She spoke on Luke 2:8-20, tying it into a theology of work.

Those at last Thursday’s gathering were the second cohort of the Sector Mentoring Programme, a pioneering scheme which draws together young emerging leaders across a range of employment sectors and pairs them with experienced Christian leaders in those sectors to support their development.

There are monthly sessions, running from November to June, that help the younger leaders to understand how their faith informs and impacts their work and helps them to live out their faith within the workplace.

The YLC is working with mentors in the following sectors: Finance and Business;  Science and Engineering; Entrepreneurs; Teaching; Creative Industries; TV/Radio; Medicine;  Church and Youth Ministry

The scheme is free and open to anyone between the ages of 18-30. The next cohort will begin in November 2018 and anyone interested should email  beth.yearsley@southwell.anglican.org
