Ben is welcomed to St Saviour’s

The licensing of the Rev’d Ben Clayton took place at St Saviour’s Church, Retford on Tuesday 9th October, by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Rt. Revd Paul Williams.

Ben was born in Oxford and grew up in the nearby countryside of the Chiltern Hills. He studied theology at university in Nottingham and worked for churches in St Albans and Nottingham before training for ordination back in Oxford at Wycliffe Hall.

“My curacy at St Jude’s in Mapperley saw me sandwiched between one of the wealthiest and one of the poorest parts of Nottingham, giving me the opportunity to serve a diverse church family and see first-hand how Jesus is relevant for everyone,” said Ben.

“The service was hugely encouraging. It’s great to know that my family and I are joining such a supportive church and get to play a part in such a vibrant and welcoming wider community. We’ve already discovered that Retford is a very friendly town and I’m excited by the opportunities that St Saviour’s has to bless it as we share the good news of God’s love.”

He is married to Jackie and they have two young children Lizzie (2) and Jonathan (1). Ben’s interests include countryside walks, crime dramas and lifeboats.

Bishop Paul commented:  ‘It was such an encouraging evening in Retford as we welcomed Ben and Jackie Clayton and licensed Ben to be the new vicar of St. Saviour’s.  Ben is one of four new appointments to the Retford area and we give thanks for all these churches in their huge commitment to serve their communities and share the good news of Jesus Christ.’
