Churches embracing YoungLIFE

Around 150 people from 27 churches across the diocese gathered over two evenings to consider how to make a significant step-change in their children and family ministry as part of the Bishop’s YoungLIFE initiative for 2019.

Bishop Paul said, “It was a huge encouragement to meet with so many form around the diocese who have such a clear commitment to exploring new ways of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with more of the 167,000 under 11’s who are growing up in our diocese.”

The churches ranged from larger city churches through to small rural groups, and through input, discussion and target-setting they worked to draw up plans for moving forward.

The Bishop has formed a core team of experienced practitioners who will be working with these churches to support them in their thinking and development.

The ‘learning community’ gatherings will continue at regular intervals into the middle of next year, with the hope that churches will be looking to relaunch their children’s ministry or form a new worshipping community in the autumn of 2019, seeking to reach more children and families in their context.

The YoungLIFE plan includes resourcing all churches and families, and a new booklet ‘Faith for the Home’ has just been released and distributed throughout the diocese. This provides practical and meaningful activities for families to use in the home, starting with an idea for every day during Advent and many more suggestions for daily prayer, reflection and worship.
