Could it be you?

Delegates  from around the diocese will share their expertise at a special Mission Fair on Saturday 9th May, at St Barnabas Church, Ranskill covering topics as diverse as leading worship, street pastors, bereavement and helping adults learn.

Bishop Tony Porter and his wife Lucille will be attending the event entitled: ‘Could it be you?’ and Bishop Tony will preach at the morning service on Sunday 10th May.

The Revd Simon Cash, says: “It seems that in years to come as the number of clergy reduces there will be a greater emphasis on the laity to take on some of the roles previously undertaken traditionally by the priest. It is for this reason that in Bassetlaw & Bawtry Deanery we wanted to encourage our lay people to consider the ways in which they might consider serving the church. We recognise that there are many people who already do a great deal, but there are some who have gifts which they are not either using fully or even at all.

“This is why we have chosen to try and encourage people within our churches to come along and explore the different ways in which they might serve. What we have picked are just a few of the many opportunities that there are in which they might serve within the church.

“The event is primarily open to church folk, but we certainly don’t wish to come across as being exclusive. We have however given each incumbent in the deanery 10 Golden Tickets to give away as invitations to the event for people in their churches. We’ll see what happens!”

David Picken, Sue Hemsley-Halls, Dave Keetley and Jacqui Jones will give short presentations on their subjects of Churchwardens/Training/PCC membership; Vocations; Youth Work ; and Children’s work between 11-12pm which will then be repeated at 2-3pm. The day is planned to run from 10-4pm with participants being provided with lunch.
