Southwell and Nottingham Diocese is proud of our work with children. We have many churches doing innovative and creative work, as well as the award-winning Time Travelling Project at Southwell Minster, and the highest standard Safeguarding and DBS Procedures.

Bishop Paul writes….

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these’.” Matthew 19:14

“At the Diocesan Conference in October I was sharing more about our new YoungLIFE initiative.  As you will have heard me say many times before, I believe there is nothing better than anyone can do with their life than become a follower of Jesus Christ.  It is an amazing privilege and joy to see young lives touched by the love of God.  I am expectant for all that the Lord is going to do over the next 12 months as we focus afresh on our ministry among 0-11 year olds in parishes across the Diocese.  This will include working closely with churches who are seeking to make a step change in their outreach and ministry with children growing disciples.  A step change is a significant shift that affects the whole life of the church.  It is going to need all of us to look carefully at how children and their families are welcomed into our churches and nurtured in the faith – we can all play a part, especially through our prayers.

“There is so much great work being done across the Diocese already and this special focus of my ministry over the next year will also be about celebrating this work.  I will be taking time between Lent and Pentecost to visit churches and schools to be with children, giving thanks for all those who already serve as committed volunteers teaching and nurturing them.

“The YoungLIFE work will culminate in a celebration weekend for children and their families at Pentecost 2019.  Our youngest disciples are of great value in the Kingdom of God and there is much we can all do to welcome more children and their families into all that God has for them.  Do pray for us as this work gets underway and look out for more information over the coming months!”

Commissioning your Children’s Ministry Volunteers
It is important to pray for, recognise, commission and encourage the children’s and youth teams in our churches. As we know, many of them give their time faithfully and sacrificially to share the good news of Jesus the young. A short commissioning, suitable for use at the start of the year in September, or more frequently at the start of each term, is now available. Click here to download.

Big E Newsletter
This mailing is produced 4 times every year, and is sent to all children’s workers on our list. If you would like to receive it please contact Catriona Gundlach
