From Lenton to Lima…Alison’s dream comes true!

Ever since studying Latin American literature at university Lay Reader, Alison Duckers has dreamt about visiting Machu Picchu. “I guess that’s why of all the countries in the world, I chose to sponsor a child from Peru,” says Alison.

“She’s a great kid, and more than once she’s asked me if I’ll visit her, and I’ve said I can’t afford it. But then we received a small inheritance, and this year is my fiftieth birthday, and so this is it – Machu Picchu here I come! I’m probably going to cry when I get there, but not nearly as much as I’ll cry when I meet my sponsored child and see the circumstances in which she has grown up. Maybe one day she’ll get to realise her dreams too. …”

Alison worships at Holy Trinity, Lenton, and is married to Paul. They have a daughter (21), a son (16) and two cats. She works in Horticulture Training for a social enterprise – Ecoworks.

“The biggest challenge is going to be raising £2000 towards the Compassion Leadership Development Programme to help other young people step into their destiny. So will you sponsor me to walk the Inca Trail from 4th – 13th October?

A huge thank you!”
