Joy and celebration as Anna becomes new vicar at Burton Joyce

St Helen’s Church in Burton Joyce was bursting at the seams on Monday evening, when the Rev’d Anna Alls was licensed by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham as vicar of the Benefice of Burton Joyce, Bulcote and Stoke Bardolph with Lowdham, Caythorpe and Gunthorpe.

Family, friends and visiting clergy filled the Grade 1 listed parish church for the service of celebration marking the beginning of a new phase of ministry for Anna and the community.

Anna worked in retail prior to ordination and for a short time worked as a waitress at Hardwick Hall. She was ordained in 2012 after theological training at St John’s College, Bramcote.

She is married to John and they have two teenage daughters, two adult sons and a labradoodle. She said: “I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to life in the United Benefice, to getting to know people and the area.”

For the past three years Anna has been Assistant Curate in the Benefice of St James, Brinsley, St Michael and All Angels, Underwood and St Mary’s, Eastwood – and  Growing Disciples Priest in Ollerton with Boughton, Kneesall with Laxton and Wellow, Walesby, Egmanton, Kirton, Bilsthorpe and Eakring.

Bishop Paul Williams commented: “There was a tangible sense of joy and celebration as we gathered to license Anna this evening.  As Anna brings her God-given gifts of collaboration, building relationships and connecting with those who may never have encountered church, her ministry of encouragement will be a great blessing as we step out in faith in this new season of opportunity and growth across these parishes.”
