The Diocese provides chaplaincy support to Fire and Rescue, Police and Ambulance services. The ministry is away from the public gaze, but hugely valued. The ministry is available to all in the Emergency services, irrespective of faith or creed.
Those who work in the Emergency services often observe tragedy and trauma. They deal with these situations with great professionalism and humanity, but can subsequently experience stress and anxiety personally: part of support is the availability of the chaplain, a “confidential Christian friend”.
An annual highlight is the Carol Service in the Minster, a great celebration of worship and friendship.
The Bishop of Sherwood meets regularly with the chaplains for fellowship, food and prayer.
