New Diocesan Director of Ordinands appointed

The Revd Craig Hunt has been appointed as the new Diocesan Director of Ordinands for Southwell & Nottingham. He is currently Associate Vicar at St. Mary’s Bredin in the centre of Canterbury, as well as Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands for the Diocese of Canterbury.  Prior to ordination, Craig was a Youth Worker at All Saint’s Church, Peckham working in an urban parish with a diverse ethnic community.  He trained for ordination at St. Mellitus College, London during which time he was responsible for the provision of youth and community work at St. Luke’s Church, Redcliffe Gardens near Earl’s Court.

“I’m really looking forward to playing my part to raise up vocations across the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham to see people come to faith in Christ Jesus and the church grow.” Craig said, “Over the last few years I have grown increasingly passionate about seeing disciples of Christ realise that God has a call on their life and love seeing people step into this call.”

In his new appointment as Diocesan Director of Ordinands, Craig will be working closely with the bishops and the Revd Canon Dr Richard Kellett, Director of Discipleship & Ministry, as well as a wider team of those supporting vocations across the diocese.

Bishop Paul said, “I am delighted that Craig has discerned with us God’s calling into this important role in the life of the diocese as we seek to train and equip many more people to serve in lay and ordained ministries across all our churches. I know he will be wonderfully supported by our wider vocations team who bring different gifts and experiences, as well as all clergy who in a very real sense share this ministry in all they do.”

Canon Richard Kellett, said: “It is great to have someone who is passionate about the vocation of all God’s people to be joining us at this time. Craig brings a wealth of insights and experience that will help us especially around nurturing vocations amongst younger people and those from BAME backgrounds.”

Craig is married to Becky and expecting their second child in March. He will take up his post from 10th June.  Over the forthcoming interim months, all enquiries related to vocations should be directed in the first instance to our Vocations Advisor, Revd Naomi Hill at
