The Service of Installation in the Minster was on Sunday 30th April 2017 at 3.30pm.

The Rev’d Nicolas Spicer is Vicar of Worksop Priory of St Mary and St Cuthbert with Carburton, and Priest in Charge of Worksop St Paul in the Deanery of Bassetlaw and Bawtry.

Bishop Paul said: “Nicolas brings considerable experience of parochial ministry and insight from ten years as Vicar at Worksop Priory and also as Priest in Charge of Manton.  He offers   a distinctive contribution to the mission of the Cathedral as we seek to resource the life of the church across the diocese.”

Nicolas was born in Solihull, and says he managed to lose the ‘Brummie’ accent by being brought up in Leamington Spa.  From there, where he became a Christian, he studied Theology at St David’s Lampeter.

After a year working as a volunteer at the Youth Centre attached to Coventry Cathedral he trained for the priesthood at The College of The Resurrection Mirfield.

“Since then I have been blessed by being four years as Chaplain with the hospitals in Hammersmith and in parishes in Bristol, Willesden Green in London and near Colchester,” says Nicolas.

“My calling in 2007 to Worksop Priory, came through others as a response to the Parochial Church Council’s person spec, and I feel greatly blessed to be here. In my time here working with two stipendiary colleagues and several hard working retired priests, I have overseen considerable work to the fabric of the building for mission – ramps, heating and new lights- and a marked growth in discipleship and new disciples.

“Bishop George asked me to be the Representative to the Bishop of Beverley for Traditionalist Catholics in the diocese, a role of encouragement and support, which although not always easy, has been of blessing.”

When the dog collar comes off Nicolas enjoys visiting the cinema, walking, bird watching and meals out with friends.

Honorary Canons of the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Southwell, are members of the College of Canons, which meets usually three times a year, in February, May and September.  The role of the College is to support the Dean and Chapter in developing life and ministry of the Cathedral, especially in its role within the wider mission of the diocese and the ministry of the Bishop.  The appointment is for seven years. Nicolas will be given the stall of Beckingham.
