New Independent Chair appointed to Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel
Bishop Paul is pleased to announce that Mr Barry Earnshaw has been appointed as Independent Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP) with effect from 1st September 2019.
Barry is currently serving as Independent Chair of the Lincolnshire Safeguarding Adults Board and brings to this role his extensive experience of leading multi-agency boards across a range of social and health care services, including safeguarding in the statutory & independent care sectors.
He succeeds the former Independent Chair, the Honourable Tony Mitchell. Bishop Paul said, “I am immensely grateful for the wisdom and professionalism that Judge Tony Mitchell brought to this role through a period of considerable scrutiny and increased attention to Safeguarding. As a diocese we were pleased to receive a positive report following the external Safeguarding Review undertaken in 2016. I am thankful that we have been able to make a strong appointment in Mr Barry Earnshaw to build on this vital area of our mission as a diocese.”
Bishop Paul continued, “As we commit to deliver the highest standards of safeguarding across our diocese, the scrutiny provided by both the Safeguarding Advisory Panel and the Independent Chair is essential, as together each of us continues to play a full part towards ensuring that our churches are places where all children and adults are kept safe in all aspects of our ministry and mission.”
