New vicar to lead resourcing church in Aspley
The congregation of St Margaret’s Church, Aspley welcomed the Rev’d Richard Atkinson as their new vicar on Thursday 4th October. He was licensed by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Rev’d Paul Williams.
Bishop Paul commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Rich and Lizzie with their children to the Diocese and delighted that Rich will be leading St Margaret’s in a new venture growing a resourcing church that will be working in close partnership with parishes across North Nottingham. This is part of a wider Diocesan plan to refresh and grow our ministry within urban estates serving communities where there is immense potential alongside some significant needs.”
Previously curate at Holy Trinity Brompton, Rich was Director of Youth Ministry and on the senior leadership team at St Thomas Philadelphia Church in Sheffield.
He said: “I was delighted to be licensed by Bishop Paul and Archdeacon Sarah Clarke at St Margaret’s last Thursday. It was a joy to be surrounded by so many from St Margaret’s and other churches in the north of Nottingham who came to share in the start of the new resource church venture.
“It was unexpected for us to move from our curacy in London at HTB to Nottingham but as Bishop Paul spoke at the licensing on not getting too settled or comfortable it resonated as we reflected on our own journey in sensing God calling us to St Margaret’s. We start at St Margaret’s feeling in awe at the challenge ahead to reach out with God’s love to those in the North of Nottingham. However we also have Bishop Paul’s words from the licensing ringing in our ears to not feel under pressure as we know that it is God who will do it. We are loving getting to know the church family at St Margaret’s and are excited for the adventure God is taking us on.”
