Remembering the victims of Rwandan genocide

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Nottingham, to mark the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda.

It is part of a day of commemoration in the city which will be attended by the Rwandan High Commissioner. The service, which will feature the Rainbow Choir, starts at 11am on Friday, 25th April. Everyone is welcome.

From noon until 3pm the commemorations move to the Council House, where survivors of the atrocities will talk about their experience. The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, the High Commissioner and Lilian Greenwood MP will be there.

There is a small Rwandan community in Nottingham, some of them survivors of the massacre which saw around one million people killed with machetes and knives.
