Installation of Interim Dean at Southwell Minster
On Monday, 4th November, friends, family, colleagues, and community members from across the diocese and beyond gathered at Southwell Minster for a beautiful Evensong service, celebrating the commissioning and installation of Revd Canon Neil Evans as Interim Dean. Ordained in 1984, Neil has served as Diocesan Director of Ministry for 17 years, part of the Bishop of London’s leadership team, a Prebendary Canon at St. Paul’s since 2018, and Canon Steward since 2022.
The service was led by Bishop Paul, joined by Canon Precentor Richard Frith, who welcomed the congregation and introduced the evening. Bishop Paul proceeded with the commissioning and invited Canon Richard to install Neil in the decanal stall, after which the congregation offered prayers for him in his new role. The Cathedral Choir also led the service with beautiful hymns and songs, and readings included Isaiah 1:1-20 by Emily MacKenzie from St. Paul’s Cathedral and Matthew 1:18-35 by Interim Dean.
The service concluded with a blessing from the Bishop and Psalm 133, sung by the choir. We pray for Neil and his wife Debbie, that God’s grace may sustain them faithfully in this new chapter.
