Enabling commitment through nurture courses this new year

It’s been great to focus on prayer this Autumn as a diocese, one of our seven areas of focus. In the new year, we’d like to invite you to join us as we focus on enabling commitment. We’re praying for 50 nurture courses to be running across the length and breadth of the diocese giving people to opportunity to take their first steps in deciding to follow Jesus.

Your church is likely to have contact with lots of people who are not yet part of your worshipping community. They might come to toddler groups midweek, they may have attended a funeral or wedding at your church, they may have come along to seasonal services like Christmas or Remembrance. These are all people who might be interested in finding out more about faith, or be looking to find community through church. Nurture courses are a great way to create spaces where people can do just that.

There are lots of nurture courses you can choose from like Christianity Explored, Start, Alpha, Saints Alive, Pilgrim, Emmaus, or you could even write your own course! This advent and Christmas is a great time to give out invitations for people to come along in the new year and find out more.

Watch the video below from Associate Archdeacon, Richard Kellett, to find out more.

Three ways your church can get involved this new year:

  1. Use this link to let us know if you’re going to be running one – we’d love to pray and signpost people to your course.
  2. Use this link if you’d like to run a course but need more support – we’d be happy to help.
  3. We would love to encourage you to be praying about who you could invite to the course at your church or one running nearby.

We believe this will be a significant season for the life of our parishes and we look forward to sharing stories of God’s living hope changing lives.
