An Inspiring Archdeacons’ Visitations Gathering
Yesterday was a wonderful evening at Southwell Minster, where churchwardens and supporters from across the diocese gathered for the admission of churchwardens into their roles.
Every year, the Archdeacons’ Visitations take place. These are formal church services, during which Churchwardens across each Archdeaconry are admitted. This year’s theme, Inspiring Worship, encouraged reflection on how we can nurture vibrant and meaningful worship across our churches.
Archdeacon Phil spoke about embracing change and valuing both traditional and contemporary styles of worship, highlighting that there is room for all. As part of the evening, he interviewed Peter, Organist at St Mary’s, Newark, along with Tom Walters, Diocesan Contemporary Worship Lead, and Hannah Crutch, Worship Leader Facilitator, who shared their insights and experiences.
It was a joy to also see parishes celebrate their churchwardens across their online platforms.
The Parish of St Mary Magdalene, Sutton-in-Ashfield shared:
“It was a joy to attend the ‘Visitation and Admission of Churchwardens’ at Southwell Minster on Tuesday 2nd June 2026. Maureen Peat and Sue Simpson were presented and admitted as Church Wardens of the Parish of St Mary Magdalene here in Sutton in Ashfield. Congratulations Maureen and Sue. We’re proud that you’ve taken on this important role in the parish and we pray that you’ll have a successful year in office”

“We are very thankful for our wonderful churchwardens who were admitted to the role for another year at Southwell Minster last night. Thank you to David and June (All Saints, Clipstone) and thank you to Jo (St John the Evangelist, Perlethorpe) for ALL you do for the life, work and ministry of the parish.”
