Architect Required on Southwell & Nottingham Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC)

As the Diocese seeks to live out its vision and address key missional challenges, investment in church buildings remains an important priority. Well-maintained, accessible buildings enable mission to flourish and help parishes serve their local communities more effectively.

The Southwell & Nottingham Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) plays a vital role in supporting this work and is seeking a suitably qualified, conservation-accredited architect to join its panel of expert advisers and assist in the care, maintenance and conservation of church buildings across the Diocese.

The Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham is responsible for just under 300 churches, including more than 100 Grade I listed buildings, 70 Grade II* churches and 64 Grade II listed churches. Each has its own opportunities and challenges, and the DAC helps parishes navigate projects ranging from conservation and repairs to the provision of new facilities and major reordering schemes.

The DAC meets nine times a year, usually on the second Monday of the month, and deliberates up to 20 new applications at each meeting. We discuss a wide range of subjects, from archaeology and bells to stained glass windows and churchyard walls, and from clocks and organs to bats and toilet facilities. While our meeting focuses are practical, our heart is to help all of our buildings to be places where discipleship flourishes and all can experience the Living Hope of Christ Jesus.

Being on the DAC is a voluntary role but a very rewarding one as it offers an opportunity to broaden your knowledge and professional networks while helping us inspire our parishes to brighten up their churches and help their local communities.

Be a part of a vibrant, intellectually stimulating but enjoyable committee.

We welcome enquiries from a suitably qualified, conservation accredited architect who shares this vision and would like to contribute their expertise to the life and mission of the Diocese.
