Christingle Celebrations!

“Through the lighting of these Christingles, we thanked God for the joy, hope, love and peace that has been given to us in Jesus.”

The start of the Advent season has seen lots of Christingle services take place across the diocese, welcoming families into churches to discover more about the light of Christ and the hope that Jesus brings at Christmas.

The Cranmer Group

Over 100 people from local villages attended the Christingle Café Church, enjoying a bacon cob breakfast, a giant orange centerpiece, and the joy of community and Christ.

People from across the Benefice made it happen, be it with music, hospitality, orange prep and Tim was the giant Christingle. Aside from the giant Christingle getting stuck in the vestry doorway, the highlight for me was being able to share the hope that we find in Jesus,  and an attendee who doesn’t normally come to church telling me that they now understand what it’s all about! Gold!” Clare Chambers, the Children & Families Worker, shared.

St John’s with St Mary’s Mansfield (Christ the Light)

It was a joy filled service last Sunday evening at St John’s Church with worship, Christingles and a talk about the sound of Christmas (hint: it’s Jesus!), with a bonus mini light switch on.

Once our Christingles were lit we took them outside as a sign of taking God’s love and light to our town. We then had a countdown, blew our candles out and transferred the light to the church tower! We finished back inside for hot dogs, hot chocolate and lovely community time.” Ruth Lee, who led the service, shared.

St Wilfrid’s, Wilford

Advent began with an all-age service at St Wilfrid’s, celebrating the gospel story through the symbolism of the Christingle.

With the orange, sweets, and red ribbon all representing different parts in the story, we reflected on how Christ came as the light, breaking into the darkness of the world and our hearts. Through the lighting of these Christingles we thanked God for the joy, hope, love and peace that has been given to us in Jesus, and It was amazing to have so many people come and hear the gospel, with many responding for the first time accepting Jesus into their lives.” Joe Sherwin, the Operations Director, shared.
