Flourishing Schools
“To flourish is to make the most of the wonderful gift that is life.”
What makes a school flourish? Pupils from Langar CofE Primary School recently shared with us their ideas for a dream school. We also heard from headteacher Jamie Walker-Jones and Revd Lauren Thompson (Wiverton in the Vale) on what it means for a school to embrace the teachings of Jesus. Watch below.
Have you considered serving as a school governor?
Supporting and caring for young people is central to Jesus’s teachings and central to our Christian ministry today. As a governor in a Church school you will be supporting the Church of England’s vision for education, which is committed to an education that enables young people to live life in all its fullness (John 10:10). It is a vision of human flourishing, in which church governors through their strategic role and ministry are key to enriching and improving the lives of young people.
“Our young people are bursting with questions, life and potential. They are also struggling to grow up in a complex and sometimes fractured world. They need to be welcomed into the church of today and tomorrow, and to be introduced personally to Jesus Christ. To tweak a well-known saying, it takes a parish to raise a child.” – Nigel Frith, Diocesan Director of Education
The role of a Church School Governor involves:
- Upholding the school’s Christian vision and ethos
- Ensuring the school fulfils its statutory responsibilities
- Regular school visits
- Challenge and support for the headteacher
- Ensuring financial resources are well spent
- One full governing body and one committee meeting per term
