Focusing on Growing Leaders

As a diocese over this year so far, we’ve focused on Nurturing Prayer and Enabling Commitment, two of our seven areas of focus. As we enter the summer term, with both Vocations Sunday and ordinations coming up, we’d love to invite you to join us in focusing on another of our areas: Growing Leaders.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Luke 10:2

Over the coming months we’re inviting you to think intentionally about your own sense of calling, as well as what it might look like to commit to investing in growing leaders in your church. Find out more from Craig Hunt, Vocations Adviser & Diocesan Director of Ordinands, below.

Three ways you can get involved this term:

VOCATION SUNDAY

Vocations Sunday is coming up on 11th May. This is an opportunity to have a particular focus on vocations and calling within your services, with videos and resources available for this on the Learning Hub. We will also be hosting a special diocesan day of prayer on the 8th May to pray for leaders and for those God is calling at this time – we’d love to see you there as we join together in prayer (sign up here).

THE GREAT VOCATIONS CONVERSATION

If you’re a church leader, we’re encouraging you to have more conversations with people in your congregations around vocation, calling and leadership. Why not try to have at least one weekly conversation in the 8 weeks leading up to the ordinations in June? You may want to think particularly about where you might be able to encourage that person to have a go and take the next step into a ministry area or leading in public worship.

CONSIDER YOUR OWN VOCATION

Perhaps you are part of a church and have been wondering what God might be calling you into next. Why not take this opportunity to have a conversation with your church leader about your God-given gifts and talents, and begin to explore where you could use these to serve God. The Learning Hub has a range of resources to help you as you explore.

We believe all are called to serve God according to their given gifts, talents and context. Each one of us has a vocation, and it is the task of all those serving in ministry to help identify and nurture the gifts and callings of every member of the Church.

We’re excited to hear the stories that emerge from the conversations which will take place over the coming months. Do get in touch with any stories or if we can support you in any way.
