MEET THE TEAM
The Diocese is overseen by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, and assisted by the Bishop of Sherwood, Archdeacons and senior staff, and administrated by the Parish support team of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham Board of Finance (DBF).
The DBF, based at Jubilee House in Southwell, sits at the heart of the Diocese to resource, enable and support Parishes in our shared ministry and mission. The Board is an incorporated, charitable body which is the Diocese’s financial executive and the employer of its staff.

Emily supports the diocesan bishop, including general inquiries relating to ministry licences, Permissions to Officiate, and diocesan-led worship services.

Miki provides diary management and administrative support for the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham.

Jacky is responsible for providing diary management and administrative support for the Bishop of Sherwood.

Jo provides administrative support to the Bishop’s Office.

Bishops’ Office Events Coordinator Hannah Brooks-Plunkett
Hannah supports the Bishops Office with Event Coordination, hospitality and administration. Hannah is part time and typically works Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor Julian Hodgson
Julian is a qualified Social Worker and joined the Church of England as a DSA in 2009. He came to Southwell and Nottingham Diocese in 2020 to set up the current team. His background in Social Work includes various management roles in Local Authority mostly in Child Protection. Before becoming a DSA, he held the Parish Safeguarding Officer role for 5 years in his own church where he continues to worship.

Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor Lucy Grimsey
Lucy is a qualified Social Worker who joined the Diocesan Safeguarding Team in September 2021. Her background is in Social Work and Child Protection before joining the team, she worked for different organisations with children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding Administrator Katrina Wilson

Diocesan Training Manager & Parish Support Officer Stephanie Spencer
Stephanie has a degree in Youth Justice and has spent the majority of her career working in the health and social care sector; predominantly in drug and alcohol services. She is the Chair of Governors at a local primary school where she is also the safeguarding governor. Before joining the safeguarding team, She was the Parish Safeguarding Officer for her church and she continues to sit on the church PCC.

DST Caseworker Penny Turner
Penny is a qualified social worker who has worked extensively in child protection and therapeutic services such as CAMHS. In 2009 she shifted to adult social care, specialising in Dementia services, then joined Lincoln diocese in 2015 as a case worker before becoming a deputy DSA and Interim DSA until leaving in 2021. She has worked with the Nottingham and Southwell DST since May 2022.

Cathedral Safeguarding Officer Lucy Andrewartha
Lucy is responsible for the development and implementation of Cathedral safeguarding arrangements, good practice, policy and training at Southwell Minster. Lucy has a background in social work, working within the context of the public sector. Lucy works 2 days a week and is based in the Minster Centre.

Independent Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP) Sally Hodges
A qualified social worker, Sally has many years experience in all aspects of safeguarding in both adults and children’s services. Sally has been a Director of Children’s Services in a number of authorities, and Chief Executive of a children’s trust. She has chaired both adults and children’s safeguarding boards in various places in the country and chaired a number of improvement boards in areas that are in special measures.

Finance & Operations Director Sean Barnes
Sean leads the diocesan finance team, helping to make long-term financial decisions and ensuring the diocese’s resources are effectively managed in alignment with the vision and mission. His duties include analysing departmental finances, creating budgets and working with the senior team to ensure the financial health and stability of the diocese.

Senior Finance Officer Sheetal Sharma
Sheetal is responsible for producing financial reports for senior management, handling trust investment account queries for Parishes, and overseeing the finance team. Works closely with the Finance & Operations Director.

Finance Officer Jason Lee
Jason is responsible for arranging payments, including processing supplier invoices, internal payroll, parish sequestration claims, and responding to supplier payment queries.

Finance Officer Angela Morton
Angela is responsible for receipts, including raising sales invoices on behalf of the Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF), issuing Parish Share information, managing Council Tax queries for clergy housing, and completing overall bank reconciliations for the DBF bank accounts.

Parish Finance Enabler Kirsty Cowley
Kirsty comes alongside churches to offer support and advice with finance related tasks and to enable PCCs to satisfy their responsibilities as Trustees.

Parish Finance Enabler Paula Carlin
Paula comes alongside churches to offer support and advice with finance related tasks and to enable PCCs to satisfy their responsibilities as Trustees. Alongside this role, Paula is also Deanery Administrator in Bassetlaw & Bawtry and Newark & Southwell deaneries.

Property Admin Jo Page
Jo is responsible for administration and queries relating to clergy housing, including compliance matters. Provides day‑to‑day administrative support for various diocesan properties and processes related invoices.

Digital Giving Adviser Anne Coyne
Anne is responsible for training and equipping parishes to increase their giving and to develop new and diverse forms of income to support their ministry and mission. She also supports parishes in adopting digital giving, which is becoming an increasingly important aspect of parish finance.

Property Coordinator Aaron Grounsell
As Property Coordinator, Aaron manages all diocesan housing repair needs, ensuring that each issue is handled politely and efficiently to minimise any inconvenience. When clergy and their families are moving house, Aaron meets with them personally to help create a home that is both suitable for their needs and aligned with the requirements of the diocese.

HR & DBS Administrator Louise Spring
Louise plays a vital role in supporting the Diocese’s commitment to safer recruitment, effective people management, and safeguarding compliance.

HR Manager Emily McRitchie
Emily is the first point of contact for parishes for all HR-related queries, as well as providing personnel support to all diocesan staff, and overseeing all aspects of HR functions.

Head of Communications & Creative Ben Garry
Ben leads the Communications team, overseeing all communications, creative and media projects with the aim of equipping parishes throughout the diocese as they grow disciples of Christ with compassion, confidence and courage. He also supports the Bishop’s Core Team to develop and evolve external and internal communications in line with our strategy and mission as a diocese.

Communications & Resources Manager Laura Frank
Laura is responsible for the development and delivery of creative projects and learning resources across our Diocese to help parishes grow disciples of Christ. She helps to run our larger digital platforms such as the website and learning Hub, as well as supporting with a range of internal and external communications.

Parish Communications Enabler Elisha Oak
Elisha supports parishes across the diocese in developing clear, creative and missional communication. Her role is to enable parishes to communicate the life of their church in ways that grow disciples, reflect their church community and strengthen missional outreach across the parish. She provides tailored advice, training and resources to equip churches online, on paper and in person.

Digital Communications Officer Lola Adeleke
Lola supports the development and delivery of creative diocesan communications and resources across digital and social media platforms, focusing on informing, inspiring, and connecting with diverse and growing audiences while strengthening support to parishes as they grow disciples of Christ.

Director of Discipleship & Ministry James Halstead
James heads up the Discipleship and Ministry team, helping parishes to grow disciples of Christ with compassion, confidence and courage, and is responsible for leadership development for lay and ordained leaders.

School of Discipleship Lead Angelika Bocchetti
Angelika oversees the School of Discipleship. Her main focus is the development of Lay leaders through the Licensed Lay Ministry course and other lay training opportunities, and fostering discipleship across the diocese through the Disciple course. Angelika is part time and works Monday – Wednesday.

Parish Discipleship Enabler Kristine Mole
Kristine supports parishes as they explore how to develop discipleship in the local church. Kristine has spent many years as a ‘lay disciple’ before being ordained and is passionate about enabling discipleship in every context. Alongside her diocesan role, Kristine is also in ministry in Lady Bay in Nottingham where she and her husband enabled a church plant in September 2021. Kristine is part time and works Monday, Wednesday & Thursday.

Growing Younger Disciples Lead Ruth Lee
Ruth helps churches reach a new generation, working with them to implement their strategic plans for Reaching Younger Disciples, in the 0-18 age range, including supporting Youth and Children’s Ministers and wider church teams by running training, retreats and learning communities.

YLC Lead Duncan Dean
Duncan oversees the development of Christian leaders across the diocese in the 18-30 ages range, via the internship programme, Apprentice Track programme, Leadership Track programme and wider network events.

YLC Track Facilitator Megan Sawyers
Megan helps to facilitate the Apprentice Track focusing on the first-year internship. This involves supporting the interns and shaping the Apprentice Track teaching programme, as we seek to reaching younger and grow leaders in the diocese.

Contemporary Worship Lead Tom Walters
Tom is responsible for raising up new, inspiring worship leaders who will lead congregations into encounter with the Lord. Tom works alongside Hannah Crutch and splits his time between Jubilee House and Trinity Church Nottingham.

Worship Leader Facilitator Hannah Crutch
Hannah supports Tom Walters (Contemporary Worship Lead) in raising up new, inspiring worship leaders who will lead congregations into encounter with the Lord. Hannah splits her time between Jubilee House and Trinity Church Nottingham. Hannah is part time, and this role has been made possible through generous funding from the national church.

Warden of Readers Sue Waterston
Sue brings collaborative and strategic leadership to equip and encourage Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMs) to serve in their local contexts and champion the Diocesan Vision: ‘Growing Disciples of Christ with compassion, confidence and courage

Children’s and Youth Work Trainer and Enabler Tom Ranger
Tom supports local churches in developing their children’s and youth work through a variety of training opportunities, providing resources to develop good practice and discipleship models, and ongoing support through mentoring, prayer, and connection.

Diocesan Chaplaincy Lead David McCoulough
David works to support, train and recruit chaplains and sector ministers across the diocese. For example, working across sectors like Prisons, Healthcare, Emergency Services and Sport.

Workplace Chaplain Jo Tatum
Jo manages about planning mission events to places of work. Supporting people through redundancy/workplace stress/disciplinary or grievance procedures where they work. She supporting parishes that want to explore town/high street Chaplaincy and helps them to engage/build partnership with larger employees in a parish. Including offering occasional offices into the workplace.

Partnerships Officer Liam O’Boyle
Liam supports and equips churches in serving their communities compassionately, responding to Jesus’ call to “love our neighbour” and to grow deeper in our discipleship by engaging in serving the communities we live in. His main focus is working alongside churches, Faith Groups, Local Authorities and the Charity Sector to tackle together the damaging effects of poverty and homelessness across the city and county.

Head of Church Growth & Planting David Robertson
David supports parishes, journeying with churches in significant phases of growth or transition, and provides training around church growth and planting, as together we seek to grow disciples of Christ with compassion, confidence and courage. This role been made possible through generous funding from the national church.

Head of Vocations Matt Prior
Matt works with parishes to help people discern a calling to ordained ministry, as well as overseeing vocational training during those in their a first ordained role or during curacy.

Apprentice Administrator Adam Proctor
Adam works alongside the Office and Administration Manager to ensure all Jubilee House staff have sufficient administrative support whilst working towards gaining practical experience to gain his Level 3 Business Administration qualification.

Office & Administration Manager Catriona Gundlach
Catriona oversees the administrative function in Jubilee House, ensuring administrative support is provided for the day to day activities of the diocesan central support team.

Receptionist & Administrator Heidi Burke
Heidi serves as the first point of contact for the diocesan office at Jubilee House, providing a warm welcome to visitors and callers while also supporting the smooth operation of administrative functions.

Sally serves as the first point of contact for the diocesan office at Jubilee House, providing a warm welcome to visitors and callers while also supporting the smooth operation of administrative functions. Sally works on Fridays.

Vocations Support Officer Kate Hurst
Kate provides administrative support for the day to day activities of the Discipleship & Ministry team, focusing particularly on supporting the Head of Vocations and the discernment process.

Head of Ministerial Development & Wellbeing Kate Byrom
Kate provides support for all those in licensed ministry (lay and ordained) to continue growing as leaders as they lead the work of Growing Disciples across the diocese. This includes ongoing ministerial development, managing the Ministerial Development Review process, and leading our approach to clergy wellbeing.

Programme Director Neil Peake
Neil heads up the Programme Management Office (PMO) and takes a lead in shaping the coherent portfolio of transformational change initiatives. He manages the resulting portfolio of strategic programmes and projects through to successful delivery working closely with local church leaders, Jubilee House colleagues and national Vision and Strategy colleagues as we seek to Grow Disciples with Compassion, Confidence and Courage.

Project Support Officer Imogen Mellor
Imogen plays a vital role in assisting the Programme Director in providing capacity and support to the diocesan-wide portfolio of transformational change initiatives. With a clear focus on the progress and outcomes within the specific projects, she is committed to using efficient project management skills and expertise to support the vision of Growing Disciples of Christ with Compassion, Confidence and Courage. Imogen is based at Jubilee House; however, she enjoys visiting churches and meeting those who work passionately in each project. Imogen works Monday – Wednesday. This role is enabled through generous funding from the national church.

Church Buildings Support Officer Stephen Watson
Stephen works closely with our worshipping communities, encouraging and advising in relation to management, repair and use of church buildings. He also assists some of our churches to navigate larger repair and capital building projects to help enable realisation of the refreshed diocesan vision.

DAC Sect./Care of Churches Jonathan Pickett
Jonathan helps parishes to look after our Church Buildings. His areas of support includes Faculties, DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee) and Churchyards.

Net Zero Carbon Support Officer Sally Dunleavy
Sally is the Support Officer responsible for assisting our worshipping communities with their Pathways to Net Zero Carbon (NZC) in line with the Diocesan and National Church of England target of becoming Net Zero. As well as supporting ad hoc projects to reduce carbon emissions, Sally works closely with her PMO colleagues on our significant building projects where Net Zero considerations are integral as well as ensuring Net Zero considerations are addressed as part of faculty applications. This is all part of our diocesan wide programme of church revitalisation and as we specifically look to address the missional challenge of a historic lack of investment in church buildings, so buildings become an enabler for mission and ministry as we seek to Grow Disciples of Christ with Compassion, Confidence and Courage. This role has been enabled through generous funding from the national church.

Archdeacon Support Officer Jessie McCarthy
Jessie provides administrative and organisational support to the Archdeacons team, enabling the effective delivery of their responsibilities in parishes across the diocese.

Governance Officer & Registry Clerk Lucy Berry
Lucy is responsible for providing effective and high-quality Governance and Secretariat Support to the Boards, Councils, clergy and laity in the parishes and deaneries of the diocese. She oversees records and supports policy and governance in order to ensure compliance with legal and church standards, while serving as a key resource for clergy and lay leaders. Working alongside the Registrar, Lucy also provides legal advice to clergy and PCC’s. She produces faculty documentation relating to churches and churchyards, as well as licences for the appointment of clergy.

Diocesan Director of Education (DDE) Nigel Frith
Nigel seeks to bring living hope to our amazing church schools. This includes spiritual and professional support for school leaders, and ensuring that every child has a positive encounter with Christ. It also involves working with local clergy and Church Multi-Academy Trusts. He empowers young people to develop their faith and leadership.

Deputy DDE & School Effectiveness Lead Samantha Dennis
Sam seeks to bring living hope to children, young people, schools and local communities across the Diocese. She works in partnership with the DDE, providing rich expertise and experience to church schools. She offers support in safeguarding, standards, school leadership development and both pastoral and spiritual wellbeing.

School Buildings Lead (Inc. Projects, Funding and Sustainability Support) Jess Lane
Jess provides guidance and support concerning church school buildings and land issues. Her work enhances our church schools, making them more impactful places of worship, prayer and learning for children, staff and parents. She also champions environmental awareness in stewarding God’s creation.

Diocesan Governance and Admissions Lead Alison Jacobson
Alison provides guidance and support to church schools on governance and admissions. Her work includes recruitment of and training for governors, thereby facilitating Christ-centred leadership, Christian education, diversity and engagement with local churches. She also champions environmental awareness in stewarding God’s creation.

Church School Sustainability Lead Craig Moxham
Craig is building fruitful relationships with schools across the Diocese, particularly smaller schools and those facing particular challenges. His role is to ensure that each school has a sustainable, flourishing future, maximising local partnerships and networks.

Diocesan Christian Distinctiveness & SIAMS Lead Louisa Newton
Louisa provides guidance, training, and resources for Headteachers, staff, governors, and MATS supporting schools in developing and embedding theologically rooted school visions that reflect the Church of England’s Vision for Education, as well as embedding the diocesan vision in their local parish context. Louisa is also responsible for providing training and guidance for schools in preparation for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).

Registrar Amanda Redgate
Amanda provides legal advice and assistance to clergy, parish officers and the general public on the following: 1. Faculties – permissions for alteration to churches and churchyards. 2. PCC issues and responsibilities. 3. Life Events – baptisms, marriages and burials. 4.Licences and Patronage – procedures relating to the appointment of clergy. We maintain Diocesan records.

Governance Officer & Registry Clerk Lucy Berry

Associate Archdeacon Richard Kellett
Richard works alongside the Archdeacons to provide substantial leadership, vision setting and support of embedding of diocesan vision and priorities for Growing Disciples of Christ at a local level. He has a particular focus on those benefices in vacancy or in times of transition.

Chief Executive Martin Cooper
As Diocesan Chief Executive, Martin Cooper is responsible for the leadership and managerial oversight of the staff employed by the DBF in all central services provided by the diocese, including Discipleship & Ministry, Safeguarding, Partnerships & Mission, Property (including Glebe), HR, Finance, Buildings, Communications and Education.

Diocesan Environment Officer (DEO) Robert Cleave
Robert is responsible for Caring for Creation (Environment) across the diocese, which includes supporting and encouraging Eco Parishes and working towards the diocese being Net Zero Carbon (NZC).
There is a shared management responsibility for the Deanery Administrator between the Area Dean and the Executive PA to the CE at Jubilee House.

Bassetlaw & Bawtry and Newark & Southwell Deaneries Administrator Paula Carlin
