Easter at St Swithun’s Retford
Holy Week at St Swithun’s was a powerful journey from quiet contemplation to joyful celebration, as the church community gathered to reflect, worship, and rejoice together.
Maundy Thursday offered an intimate evening of heartfelt worship. With acoustic music and a Spirit-filled atmosphere, it was a space to pray, and to draw near to the heart of Jesus, creating space to prepare for the days ahead.

Good Friday brought a contemplative pause with Reflections of the Cross, held at 2pm in the church. This quiet, moving service invited all to remember the suffering, the silence, and the ultimate sacrifice of Christ. Through readings, reflection and silence, the depth of love shown through the cross was honoured. Earlier in the day, a sensory drop-in experience, Creative Station, welcomed families for a time of creative reflection. From palm leaves to painted crosses, the space was filled with crafts, quiet moments and hands-on activities offering a meaningful and engaging time for all ages.
And then came Easter Sunday – full of life, laughter, and the joy of resurrection! The morning celebration welcomed people of all ages into a vibrant Easter service that was meaningful, welcoming and alive with hope. Children (and adults!) enjoyed an exciting Easter Egg Hunt packed with sweet surprises, while a pop-up photo booth captured the smiles and memories. It was a morning bursting with the joy of resurrection and a reminder that after the silence of the tomb, joy always comes!
