Good News Spotlight: MP visits St Saviour’s Church in the Meadows

Recently, Lilian Greenwood (MP for Nottingham South) visited St Saviour’s Church in the Meadows to hear about its plans for the future and its growing role in the local community.

The visit comes after recent financial investment by the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England through the Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment Board (SMMIB) in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham as part of the Church Growth Programme which is our diocesan wide programme of church revitalisation. This 10-year funding partnership will enable a diocese-wide programme of church revitalisation, focused on growing disciples of Christ and bringing living hope to the city, towns and villages of Nottinghamshire and beyond.

One of the funded projects is the community-focused reopening and regeneration of St Saviour’s Church in South Nottingham. The project has included the restoration of the building and the employment of a staff team, with roles focused on mission among children, young people, students and young adults.

During her visit, Ms Greenwood met church leaders Jo and John and heard about plans to expand the church’s activities for children, young people and families across the Meadows. The church is already building connections with the local community, becoming a hub for social transformation and pastoral care in the Meadows, while welcoming a growing congregation on Sundays.

Lilian Greenwood shared on her Facebook account:

“Community spaces like St Saviour’s can play such an important role in bringing people together, providing support and creating opportunities – so it’s fantastic to see the church open again and looking to do even more for local residents.”

She welcomed the church’s reopening and praised Jo and John for the work they are already doing in the community, adding that she was looking forward to seeing what comes next for St Saviour’s.

Join us in praying for St Saviour’s in the Meadows and the wider community, and for a fresh move of the Holy Spirit that will continue to bring an overflow of God’s blessing to the church and parish.
