Licensing of Danny Marshall as Rector of the Benefice of Newark on Trent St Mary Magdalene
Last Sunday evening, the benefice of St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard joyfully welcomed its new Rector, Revd Danny Marshall, at a Service of Institution and Installation at St Mary Magdalene, Newark. Parishioners, local residents, clergy, family and friends gathered to celebrate the beginning of this new chapter in the life of the parish.
The service began with a welcome from the Reverend Canon Dr Neil Evans, Area Dean for Newark and Southwell Deanery. The Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Ed Attenborough, representing the Patron, the Crown, presented Danny to the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Rt Revd Paul Williams, who instituted him as Rector. Archdeacon Tors preached and inducted and installed Danny.
The Bible readings were from Ephesians 2:1–9 and John 10:1–21. Archdeacon Tors, Archdeacon of Newark, preached and inducted and installed Danny.
Danny was born in Nottinghamshire and is married to Bec, with whom he has a daughter, Evelyn Grace. He studied Theology at the University of Chester and St John’s College, Nottingham, before training as a teacher at the University of Derby. After working with young people, schools and in apprenticeship and prison education, Danny began ordination training at St Mellitus College, East Midlands.
During his curacy at St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard, Danny and Bec felt called to remain in Newark and continue serving the parish. Danny has a particular passion for recognising and nurturing the gifts of others, finding joy in seeing people encouraged, equipped and released into the ministry God may be calling them to.

“It was a truly wonderful occasion that brought together the broad worshipping community here at St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard, alongside our neighbouring churches and civic partners. The last few years have been quite remarkable, and there was a clear sense of that during the service as people worshipped together. We give thanks to God for all that he has done and for all that he will do next.“
We are delighted for Danny, Bec and Evelyn Grace, and for the benefice of St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard, as they begin this new chapter of ministry together.
