Licensing of Jim Prestwood as Associate Archdeacon
Tuesday evening was a wonderful occasion as friends, family and members of the local community gathered at Southwell Minster for Evening Prayer and the licensing service of the Revd Jim Prestwood as Associate Archdeacon of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. Jim was licensed and commissioned by Bishop Paul.
The congregation received a warm welcome from the Revd Dr Stephens, Dean of Southwell. The first reading, from Haggai 1:12–2:9, was followed by a reading from Luke 1:46–55. Archdeacon Phil preached the homily, and the prayers of intercession were led by Archdeacon Tors and Associate Archdeacon Richard Kellett.
Reflecting on the evening, the Revd Jim Prestwood shared:
“I’m so grateful for the warm welcome our family have received. We look forward to getting to know the places, churches and people of our Diocese and are excited to be joining with you all in sharing the living Hope of Christ!”
Jim grew up in Sheffield, developing a lifelong love of the outdoors and Sheffield Wednesday. He studied Psychology at the University of York, where he met his wife, Vicky. Together, they have shared in ministry for over 25 years.
After training for ordination at St Mellitus College, Jim served his curacy in North London before leading a team from HTB to plant St Swithin’s in Lincoln. During 12 years there, he was involved in church planting, partnership and leadership across the city and diocese, including serving as Priest-in-Charge of St Faith’s, Partnership Dean, Assistant Archdeacon and Canon of Lincoln Cathedral.
Jim is passionate about reaching and discipling younger generations, developing leaders, intergenerational worship, and church planting and revitalisation.
We are delighted for Jim, Vicky and their children, Erin, Felicity and Joel, as they begin this new chapter of ministry together. Please join us in praying for Jim as he settles into his new role and community, and as we continue to share the Living Hope of Christ across the Diocese and beyond.
