Listen Up 2026: Young Voices Inspiring Change Across the Diocese

Listen Up, an annual conference with a difference, planned and delivered entirely by young people from Church of England schools across the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, was held last Thursday. It provided a unique space for pupils to share their ideas, projects, and experiences, encouraging others to reflect, engage, and take action within their own schools and communities.

Young leaders took to the stage to present to an audience of their peers from across the Diocesan family, speaking passionately about issues they care deeply about and the actions they are already taking to make a difference. With no adult speakers, Listen Up 2026 placed young people firmly at the centre of the conversation.

The conference was a moving, joyful and hope-filled celebration of why children matter and why their voices must be heard

This year’s conference once again demonstrated the creativity, courage and insight of young people across the Diocese. Through their presentations and discussions, they inspired their peers and adults and created a powerful forum for reflection and change.

One Headteacher who attended the conference reflected:

“I’d just like to say how wonderful yesterday’s event was. It was a pleasure to listen to inspiring young voices all day. I was particularly struck by what the first young speaker said about how she is always told that ‘children are the future’, but that she disagrees. Children are the now. Insightful and empowering – I can’t unhear it.”

Another Headteacher shared:

“The reflections and ripples that came out of the day, and which had led to what was shared during the conference, were so impressive. God was so clearly present and at work throughout the day, but also across the Diocese. What an incredible place to be a part of. I feel very fortunate.”

The Listen Up Conference was organised by the diocesan Education Team, who support the 73 Church of England schools in the diocese.
