People Update – January 2026

PARISH

Revd. Rachael Burn, at present Curate in the benefice of Hucknall St Mary Magdalene with St John the Evangelist, is to be Priest-in-Charge (Interim) of the benefice of West Hucknall, St Peter and St Paul. Rachael will be licensed on 24th February. Please pray for Rachael as she prepares for this new role.

JUBILEE HOUSE

Following some recent staff departures, we are pleased to welcome to Jubilee House the following colleagues, each helping us to support and equip parishes as we work together in growing disciples of Christ with compassion, confidence and courage.

Emily McRitchie has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as HR Manager. In this role, Emily is the first point of contact for parishes for all HR-related queries, as well as providing personnel support to all diocesan staff, and overseeing all aspects of HR functions.

Matt Prior has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as Head of Vocations. In this role, Matt will be developing a pipeline of leaders (in both lay and ordained roles) who are well-equipped for mission and ministry across our churches. Matt also replaces Craig Hunt in the role as Diocesan Director of Ordinands.

Louisa Newton has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as Diocesan Christian Distinctiveness and SIAMS Lead in the Education Team. Louisa will provide guidance, training, and resources for Headteachers, staff, governors, and MATS supporting schools in developing and embedding theologically rooted school visions that reflect the Church of England’s Vision for Education, as well as embedding the diocesan vision in their local parish context. Louisa replaces Anne Lumb in this role.

Lucy Berry has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as Governance Officer & Registry Clerk. Lucy will be responsible for providing effective and high-quality Governance and Secretariat Support to the Boards, Councils, clergy and laity in the parishes and deaneries of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. This role oversees records, supports policy and governance in order to ensure compliance with legal and church standards, while serving as a key resource for clergy and lay leaders. Lucy replaces Eleanor Dunleavy as Registry Clerk.

Jessie McCarthy has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as Archdeacon Support Officer. Jessie provides administrative and organisational support to the Archdeacons team, enabling the effective delivery of their responsibilities in parishes across the diocese.

Adam Proctor has joined the diocesan central support team at Jubilee House as Apprentice Administrator. Adam works alongside Catriona Gundlach (Office and Administration Manager) to ensure all Jubilee House staff have sufficient administrative support whilst working towards gaining practical experience to gain his Level 3 Business Administration qualification.

Imogen Mellor has returned to her role as Project Support Officer in the diocese central support team at Jubilee House after maternity leave. As Project Support Officer, Imogen supports churches with growth and revitalisation, playing a vital role in assisting the Programme Manager in providing capacity and support to the diocesan-wide portfolio of transformational change initiatives. Imogen’s new working days will be Monday-Wednesday. This role is enabled through generous funding from the national church.

OBITUARIES

Revd Canon Joan Whysall, a retired Priest living in Trowell, died on 7th December 2025, aged 83. Joan was ordained Deacon in 2001 and Priest in 2002 in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. She was Assistant Curate at St. Helen’s, Trowell with Awsworth and Cossall (2001 – 2006) before being appointed Priest-in-Charge at Christ Church, Cinderhill (2006-2011), serving as Vicar from 2011 until her retirement in 2014. Joan was made an honorary Canon of Southwell Minster in 2010 and served with Permission to Officiate from 2015 until May 2025, particularly serving at St. Luke’s, Stapleford. Joan died on 7th December 2025 in the presence of her two sons. The funeral will be held on Friday 9th January, 1pm at St. Helen’s, Trowell and then at Bramcote Crematorium.
