Pupil Leaders of Collective Worship Conference
Around 100 children and adults from 20 schools (including community schools) within the Transform Multi-Academy Trust gathered at Southwell Minster and the Archbishop’s Palace this week for the Pupil Leaders of Collective Worship Conference. This inspiring event, hosted by Transform Trust and supported by Anne Lumb, Diocesan Ethos, RE & SIAMS Lead, offered a unique opportunity for pupils and staff to explore leadership in collective worship.

The day was filled with sunshine, learning, and a sense of wonder as participants explored the Minster and its beautiful grounds. Children and adults alike engaged in hands-on workshops designed to develop leadership skills, all while soaking in the special atmosphere of the historic venue. One child remarked, “I’m glad we have come to a palace to learn today-it made me feel important!”
Pupils from across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and Derby joined in song and reflection, exploring how to make collective worship meaningful, inclusive, and welcoming. Workshops focused on creating reflective spaces, bringing stories to life, making prayer more accessible, and crafting memorable ways to begin and end worship.

One teacher commented, “This kind of day really brings you back to the heart of what matters,” while another added, “It has been wonderful to see how seriously the children have taken their roles as leaders.”
The children left inspired, with some final reflections:
“Collective worship can be fun and also helps you learn about God and being a better person,” and “I’ve learned that having quiet time is important in assemblies – so I’ll make sure we do that now.”
Join us in praying for all those involved and attending, and for more creative ways to inspire worship and reach our young people across the Diocese.
