St Wilfrid’s Wilford Kids Church’s Journey to Easter

This year at St Wilfrid’s Kids Church, the children explored the four key events leading up to and including Easter Sunday in a hands-on and meaningful way. The aim was to give them a physical reminder of the Easter story — something they could build, reflect on, and return to each week.

Each child was given a diorama, which they added to week by week as they journeyed with Jesus. Together, they followed the story from Palm Sunday, through Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and finally celebrated Easter Sunday. As the weeks passed, the dioramas became a visual retelling of Jesus’ journey, helping the children engage with the story in a tangible and memorable way.

Wendy Cranefield, Kids Church Lead shared:

“At our final session, a parent shared a lovely moment. Her daughter had been excitedly counting down the days until she could finish her diorama. The mum then added how meaningful the experience had been for her too, explaining that she hadn’t grown up with the Easter story, as she was brought up in another religion. Learning the story alongside her daughter had been a real gift, allowing them to discover and reflect together as a family.”

“For our last session, the children also created Easter gardens. These sparked interest beyond the Kids Church. One of the older members of the church, who lives at Larkhill, asked if she could come and see what the children had made. Inspired by their creativity, she shared the idea with others and went on to create an Easter garden for the Main Street at the Larkhill Complex.”

“This feels like a beautiful reminder that God is on the move—working through children, across generations, and within families. As we learn and serve together, our communities are being touched, and we are reminded of our calling to be light where we are placed.”
