Easter Stories – Part 1
It’s been such an incredible Holy Week and Easter across our Diocese. Scroll below for part 1 of some short stories from across our churches.
Holy week was a big week in the life of St Stephens. Children from St Stephens C of E School put together a Holy Week Pilgrimage and came to live it out in church at their Easter Service. Each class (year group) shared different aspects of the Easter Story. The whole school filled every seat in church including standing room at the back….
The River Idle Benefice Churches
At Pusto Hill Farm over 40 people gathered at 6:30am for an early morning service. As dawn broke, the community celebrated the joy of Easter morning. The service reflected on the wonder of Jesus’ resurrection, during which the community sang and prayed together on the hill. There was a real sense of being full immersed in new life, with the birds and cows joining in all around!
St James Porchester Nottingham
St James celebrated a range of inspiring events through Holy Week from passover meals to family fun days, walks of witness and a sunrise service at Gedling Country park. On Easter Sunday their all age service included 10 individuals coming for Baptism, with pre-recorded video testimonies sharing how each person had made a commitment to follow Jesus.
Ravenshead had a wonderful holy week with a bumper attendance at a new service, and a number of great services throughout the week
Gamston Connect
Over a hundred people of all ages from across the community in Gamston came to join the Big Psalm Sunday donkey walk. After a great walk together, the community gathered back at the Primary School for a short message and community time together. This was followed by a joyful Easter Sunday service on the theme of finding Jesus, knowing Jesus and sharing Jesus!
St. Patrick’s, Nuthall
Starting on Palm Sunday, a couple in the congregation at St. Patrick’s in Nuthall provided a talking point for passers-by with their yarn-bombing (colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn) on the Church Gate Pillars. Each one told a different part of the story of Holy Week and Easter. This helped to share the message of Easter in a creative and engaging way for the village community and sparked a number of interesting questions and conversations.
St Judes Mapperley
St Judes Mapperley ran an engaging Easter Trail and fun day during Holy Week. Over 300 people from the community spent time walking the trail, with many returning for the fun day to explore more the message of hope and new life this Easter.
