A Joyous weekend at Thorney
What a joyous weekend we had!
On Saturday 18th May we met with some of our children and made ‘crowns’ with tissue paper flames, a Whit Doll, dressed in white ready for baptism or confirmation and cakes were decorated.
As we told the Pentecost story our crowns were worn and our candles were lit. Then we exchanged tales of Whitsun treats, new outfits especially for Whitsun and our baptisms, mostly as adults!
Candles blown out, cakes were eaten and we sang Give me Oil in my lamp. Balloons were taken home as we had been at a Birthday Party for the Church.
On Sunday, a slightly unusual form of Morning Worship was held, with lots of balloons in church again, as well as more cakes and candles!
It seemed to be a very joyous occasion, as the singing was marvellous and there were extra hymns to be sung. Various Voices took part with readings and prayers and the film ‘Up’ played it’s part!
We stood in a circle to enjoy our candles and to bless one another as we blew them out and prepared to go out into the world, like the first disciples.
We took balloons to remind us that we can’t see the air inside, as we can’t see the Holy Spirit, but we know He’s there! And to remind us that we had been at a very special Birthday Party!
