Confirmations at Trinity Church Nottingham

Last week, the families and friends of 12 confirmation candidates from across the diocese, including one candidate who was received into the Church of England, gathered with the congregation of Trinity Church Nottingham to celebrate their commitment to God.

As the candidates prepared to be confirmed and receive a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, Rev Sam Watkins-Smith preached from Acts 2:1–17 on the church as a community filled with the Holy Spirit. He spoke about the Holy Spirit living within us as God’s way of drawing close to his people. God became human in Jesus to enter into our world, and then ascended so that the Spirit could be everywhere, at all times, always with us. This filling is not just for our own sake, but so that it overflows into the lives of others, enabling them to hear the good news of Jesus and be saved.

As Bishop Andy confirmed each candidate, the rest of the congregation was also invited to receive the Holy Spirit afresh. Each candidate was anointed with oil and prayed for by the Bishop, while close friends and family gathered around them in prayer. It was a beautiful time of peace and rest as the room was filled with the presence of God. Please join us in praying for each of the candidates as they continue their journey with Jesus.

We believe there is nothing better anyone can do with their life than become a follower of Jesus. If you want to explore faith, use the link below to find a church near you.
