Mothers’ Union: Away From It All Holidays

Southwell & Nottingham Mothers’ Union offer Away From It All (AFIA) – a holiday scheme that helps families take a break from daily stresses. They send 12 families every year who haven’t had a holiday in three years.

During the Spring Bank holiday, families go on a weeklong break at a caravan site in Mablethorpe.

People can apply themselves and will need to be sponsored by an agency who know them. Families need to make their own way there and pay £30 deposit, but MU support people with the food shopping.

Helen, who coordinates AFIA, said, “These holidays make an enormous difference to people – we have a lady who is still in touch with us after her holiday over 30 years ago. She said it changed her life after she was living in a refuge.

Last year, somebody said their holiday had given them the confidence to learn to drive, while another said their children learnt to swim while they were away.

It gives families an opportunity to have quality time to bond and be together.”

People can contact Helen on 0115 9589776 for more information or download the application form here.
