Service of Thanksgiving for George Cassidy

You may have already received the sad news that George Cassidy, Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham from 1999-09, died peacefully on the 29th March following a serious stroke three weeks ago.

Bishop Paul writes:

‘During his ten years as diocesan bishop, along with his wife, Jane, George touched the lives of many across the diocese through his kind and wise leadership. He inspired and encouraged many to enter into ordained and lay ministries, giving tremendous support and confidence to people to take on new and fruitful roles in the church, diocese and wider society. George was someone of tireless energy and vision for gospel ministry, who loved meeting with and connecting people in the Lord’s work; he also had a skilful eye for the value and importance of good organisation in enabling mission. He continued to be very active in ministry since retirement, especially in the Diocese of Bath & Wells where he and Jane lived close to the beautiful Quantocks.’

A service of Thanksgiving will take place at 3pm tomorrow, Tuesday 16th April at St Mary Magdalene in Taunton, which Bishop Paul will be helping to lead. You can share in the service via live-stream here https://www.tauntonminster.org/onlineworship/.
