Summer Stories Part 1

It has been great to see summer events and celebrations taking place across parishes in the diocese, bringing together families and the community. Below are some highlights.

St Mary’s Sutton-in-Ashfield

On 19th July, the different congregations from St. Mary Magdalene pulled together to put on a fantastic summer celebration for the local community.

There were stalls, teddy bears zip lining, cakes, games, prizes, refreshments, open church, demonstrations and the church school worship choir, all bringing many different walks of life in Sutton together.

Kitty (Children and Families Team leader) shared:

“Despite the rain, there was so much joy and celebration. The day saw everyone gathering together as one church to serve God and serve Sutton and raise some money to support the work of our church!”

St Stephen’s Sneinton

St Stephen’s Sneinton took part in the Sneinton Festival on Saturday 12th July. Sneinton Festival, an annual event that celebrates all that is wonderful about Sneinton. It was a special morning seeing the churchyard full and a great demonstration of the community being built.

Nearly 200 breakfasts were served before the Sneinton parade. The parade was a carnival of colour and our faces were beaming with joy and smiles as we cheered everyone on.

Revd Lynda Blakeley, Priest-in-Charge at St Stephen’s, shared:

St Mary’s Attenborough

Attenborough Festival, organised by St Mary’s Church, is a joyful annual summer fun day for everyone to get involved in. This year was filled with music, a BBQ, cakes, stalls, kids crafts, bouncy castles, local community groups, partner charities (including Hope Nottingham) and exciting sporting races for kids and adults alike.

Revd Toby Artis, Vicar at St Mary’s, shared:

The day was blessed with great weather, a great turn out, and an amazing team who planned and executed the whole afternoon superbly!
