Jubilee House Volunteer Day 2026 in Bilsthorpe and Manton
Every year, diocesan staff head out from Jubilee House to two parishes to spend a day helping out however they need us to. This year’s Volunteer Day took us to St Margaret’s, Bilsthorpe and St Paul’s, Manton, both of which were wonderful hosts and fantastic places to spend the day.
ST PAUL’S, MANTON
St Paul’s is a community-focused church in Manton, a suburb of Worksop. It is a church with a beautiful legacy of prayer and support from the surrounding area and is currently undergoing a period of rejuvenation and fresh activity fuelled by both those who have faithfully served for decades and others who are new to the church.

Our work in St Paul’s was varied, covering both the church building and its associated hall. We cleared, cleaned and painted multiple areas across both buildings and the church’s entrance, sorted through storage cupboards, replaced curtains and assembled a varied assortment of flatpack furniture.
Throughout the day we were welcomed enthusiastically and hosted generously by the church’s volunteers, and were able to get a glimpse of the great work being carried out in their local area through their community food larder, coffee morning and more.
ST MARGARET’S, BILSTHORPE
Bilsthorpe – a village near Mansfield – is the home of the beautiful St Margaret’s church. The worshipping community centred in this historic building is part of a family of churches serving villages across the surrounding area. Their love for the church and wonderful spirit of generosity were clear as they hosted us.

Our work at St Margaret’s took place both inside and outside the church, which included both the main churchyard and an extended churchyard over the road. The tasks included thoroughly cleaning multiple parts of the building, weeding and cutting grass outside, clearing and sorting files and repainting railings in the car park.
The homemade cakes that were generously provided by members of the church ensured that our team had more than enough treats to fuel the day’s activities, and we loved the opportunity to spend time with and work alongside the people who are faithfully serving their community in Bilsthorpe.
FUTURE VOLUNTEER DAYS
The Volunteer Day is an opportunity for the team at Jubilee House to help out and make a positive impact in some of our parishes in a practical way. We relish the opportunity to spend time with churches and serve the diocese in a different way to our day to day. Look out for an opportunity to nominate your church for our 2027 Volunteer Day.
