Easter at St Michael’s Bramcote

Holy Week and the Easter weekend were filled with inspiring moments and meaningful community gatherings at St Michael’s in Bramcote.

Maundy Thursday began with a Holy Communion service with a reading from Exodus 12, recounting God’s command to commemorate the Passover with a special meal. This was followed by a reading from John 13, describing Jesus washing the disciples’ feet at the Passover Festival, an act of humility just before His betrayal, arrest and crucifixion. Following the service, a traditional Agapé gathering brought people together to share a simple meal in remembrance of the Last Supper shared by Jesus and His disciples.

Good Friday morning featured ‘The Way of the Cross‘: a moving meditation with music, readings and reflections from John’s gospel. In the evening, ‘Reflections on the Cross‘ offered a powerful space for contemplation through hymns, readings, prayers and Passiontide anthems performed by the choir. Participants sat in a circle around the cross, reflecting on the profound significance of Jesus’ death.

One attendee shared: “Loved it. Will be sending the Ubi Caritas arrangement to my choir – it was beautiful.”

On Saturday, there was a morning of tea & cake in the church, giving the local community the chance to meet the new vicar, Matt, and his wife Melanie.

Finally, Easter Sunday brought great joy as many gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. People of all ages participated in services filled with hymns, songs, and prayers, rejoicing in the hope and promise of that first Easter morning. Bread and wine were shared, reenacting the Last Supper Jesus held with His disciples. At the 10am celebration, Matt offered a heartfelt message on how to respond to Jesus’ death and resurrection in everyday life. The day concluded with Easter Praise in the evening with a talk focused on Mary, who was distraught upon finding Jesus’ body missing from the tomb and overwhelmed with joy upon realising He had risen.
