This is the transcript of Bishop Paul's address to Diocesan Synod on 12th October 2024. In Luke 5 Jesus begins the task of recruiting a team of people who will serve closely with him in establishing God’s kingdom on earth, and this is the same team that Jesus has called us to be a part of.  In the Church of England calendar, on Thursday we remembered the witness of Saint Paulinus, who in 325 was sent as part of the Gregorian mission

"Throughout conference God has been teaching me that we go in His strength, not our own." This week, leaders from across the diocese gathered at the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick for 48 hours of prayer, worship and teaching at the annual Diocesan Conference. This year's theme was 'Healthy Leaders, Flourishing Churches'. It was such an inspiring and encouraging time of hearing stories from around the diocese, teaching on leadership from Revd Dr Kate Middleton, and worshipping God together, as well

We're pleased to announce that as part of the Church Commissioner’s £11 million Building for Mission fund, administered by the Archbishops’ Council over the period 2023 to 2025, the diocese was recently awarded funding towards building repairs and specialist advice to parishes. Part of this funding has been used to employ a Church Buildings Support Officer, and Stephen Watson has recently been appointed to this post. Stephen has spent 22 years working in the construction industry, and will be working closely with our

Over the coming 12 months, the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) Secretary, Jonathan Pickett, is visiting every deanery to hold a drop-in clinic for parishes, incumbents and churchwardens. The hope is that the clinics provide an opportunity to speak to and consult with Jonathan on anything related to the faculty process, church buildings and churchyards. The drop-in clinics will be an informal space, where you can ask any questions regarding your faculty application, the online system, or any aspect of your church

Thursday 5th September was a joyful evening as Revd Jenni Foreman was licensed as Vicar of Christ Church, Worksop and St Luke's, Shireoaks and Rhodesia. Bishop Andy Emerton and Revd Dave Gough (Area Dean for Bassetlaw & Bawtry) led the service, with Archdeacon Tors Ramsey sharing an encouraging message on the radical whole-life worship demonstrated by the woman who anointed Jesus in Luke 7, inviting Jenni and the community in Worksop to join together on a journey formed around worship, modelling

On 3rd July a number of our church school leaders gathered together to learn from each other, refresh their vision and share communion together. The theme of the day was ‘rooted in love’ and the keynote speaker, Anjali Kanagaratnam, shared the challenge to see the urgency and the centrality of love, commenting, “Love is really hard work – but it’s also the only option we have.” Three of our church schools shared what it means to them to build a school community rooted
