Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham becomes a Member of the House of Lords
The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Right Reverend Paul Williams, has taken his seat in the House of Lords today (June 13th). He was introduced to the Upper Chamber of Parliament by the Bishop of Birmingham and the Bishop of Southwark as two of the 26 bishops, known as the Lords Spiritual.

In a special Jubilee message on Wednesday, the Queen spoke about ‘looking to the future with confidence and enthusiasm’. Once more the Queen spoke with resilient hope not based on wishful thinking but inspired by her faith in God before whom, seventy years ago, she dedicated her life to the service of nation and Commonwealth.
Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
There have been some great events this weekend across the diocese including crafts, picnics, and Beacon Lightings. We are grateful for everybody who helped to put on activities in both our churches and the community.
Jubilee House Earns its Bronze Eco Award
Jubilee House has received its A Rocha UK Eco Bronze Award in recognition of our efforts to care for God’s earth.
“Beating the Bounds” on Rogation Sunday
Today is Rogation Sunday – a traditional service that asks for God’s protection of the agriculture industry, livestock, and crops. In England, it occurs during the planting season. The three days following are considered Rogation Days, where Christians are encouraged to fast and pray ahead of Ascension Day. The tradition involves the incumbent walking the boundaries of the parish – which called “beating the bounds” – praying the Great Litany as well as psalms and asking for God‘s blessing for well-being
Celebrating Ethel Gordon Fenwick
Today, a service at St Helena’s Church, Thoroton celebrated the life and work of Christian, Ethel Gordon Fenwick who is often called “the first nurse” after she campaigned throughout her life for nationally recognised qualifications and a register for nurses.

Living with Loss Café Easing Loneliness
The theme of this Mental Health Awareness week is loneliness, which includes those who have been bereaved. Clifton Parish have been running a monthly Living with Loss session to help ease the loneliness, it is complemented by a weekly drop in café which is open to all.
Inspiring Pupil Leaders of Collective Worship
Last week, children from fifteen Church of England schools across the diocese gathered for a Pupil Leaders of Collective Worship Conference at Southwell Minster. Children took part in four sessions to inspire their worship in school.
