Pentecost and Thy Kingdom Come Stories

Sometimes described as the ‘birthday of the Church’ Pentecost is a special time where we celebrate the Holy Spirit poured out on all believers. With 10 days of prayer between Acension and Pentecost, there’s been some great stories of baptisms, prayer and ‘pentecost parties’ across our Diocese.

Courageous Baptisms at The Orchard, a new worshipping community in Chilwell

The Orchard is a new worshipping community that launched in June 2023, in Inham Nook, Chilwell to the west of Nottingham. Their prayer is for ‘deep roots and fruitful lives’, and for everyone to grow deep roots of faith in Jesus and for the fruit of His Spirit to grow in us.

Pentecost Party for primary school children at St Giles

Thirty primary school children celebrated the birthday of the church as part of an ‘Activate event’ in partnership with St. Paul’s Boundary Road and Holy Rood. This is part of series of events that Family Workers from the surrounding churches plan together. They’ve recognised that many of the children in their churches know each other from school, and so the aim is to encourage them in their faith by providing opportunities to worship and pray together.

Prayer Stations on the Field at Magnus Academy

Every year Magnus Academy host events to mark the occasion and this year they had different prayer stations on the field for students to take part in. Students were invited to pray for others, write down prayer requests and think about who God is to them. There was also a space for reflection, a wall of thanks and an affirmation jar available for students to take.

Prayer Gathering for Newark Youth

On the 17th May Christian youth (year groups 6-13) from Newark and the surrounding area gathered as part of Thy Kingdom Come to pray for friends, family, their town and the world. The event was run by St Mary Magdalene Church, with Dom Conidi from Scripture Union as the guest speaker, who is passionate about inspiring young people in their prayer lives.

Thy Kingdom Come at Trent Vineyard

Thursday 16th was powerful evening as over 1,000 christians from 100 different churches in Nottinghamshire came together to pray as part of Thy Kingdom Come at Trent Vineyard. The time together was rooted on Micah 4 ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord’. Throughout the evening there was space to pray specifically for different communities such as healthcare professionals, children and young people, families and more.
